Sustainable Solutions for a Thirsty Planet

About the LTT

Day 1: Morning: Arrival and welcome session. Ice-breaking activities with local students. Introduction to water as a vital resource Guided Visit to Eğirdir Lake (A key freshwater source in the region) to learn about the causes and consequences of water pollution and conduct simple water testing experiments to analyze pH levels and pollutants. Afternoon: Workshop: “Where Does Our Water Go?” Students will track how much water they use in daily activities (washing, cooking, cleaning, etc.).

Day 2: Morning: Field Visit to the Municipality Water Treatment Facility to explore how water is purified and distributed, learn about the environmental cost of excessive water use and how leaks, inefficiency, and pollution make water scarcity worse. Afternoon: Practical activity: Microplastic investigation in water samples. Recycled Bottle Challenge: Students will upcycle plastic waste into functional objects for daily use (e.g., self-watering planters, storage containers).

Day 3: Morning: Visit to the Sustainable Water Conservation Project of the municipality to observe innovative water-saving techniques used in local communities. Practical DIY filtration experiment: How can simple tools be used to purify water? Afternoon: Water Footprint Challenge to compare the water usage of various daily activities (e.g., producing a T-shirt vs. taking a shower), brainstorm ways to reduce their school’s water footprint, create awareness posters to take back to their schools.

Day 4: Morning: Eco-Action Plan Workshop to develop practical sustainability initiatives to implement in their schools, such as: a “Water-Wise School” campaign with tips for reducing waste, a plastic-free challenge to reduce pollution, a water-saving challenge for students and their families. Afternoon: Community Engagement: Sustainable Daily Habits Closing event with student presentations, certificates, and sustainability promises. Evening: Farewell Celebration with Local Music and Dance
